Year of Running 2018

At the end of 2017 I told Chase I didn’t want to even think about getting pregnant the following year. I wanted to be able to just run and enjoy my year. My goal for the year was to run a sub 2 hour half marathon (be under 2 hours). You can read about my year of running 2017, 2016, and 2015.

Best Race Experience

I ran 4 races this year, and out of all of them the best race for me was the 10k on July 4. That was mainly due to how I felt race morning and throughout the race. Things worked out perfect, everything went smoothly that day. I didn’t really have any clear goals for the race, except to enjoy the race. Which I did.

Best Run

From February to about September I was running with 3 other girls in my neighborhood. This run happened to be one of those early coldish mornings 6 miles. It was a hard 6 miles, and I felt like I was gonna die, but it was so rewarding to know I could push myself a little bit harder and achieve a little bit more.

Best new piece of running gear

The only new running gear I got was a new pair of running shoes. That is the best thing you could get when you’re running a lot of miles. Altra’s are my go to and these are the shoes that I ended up getting.

Best running advice you’ve received this year

I didn’t ever receive running advice this year. But one thing that I think every runner should remember is that you need to take care of your body. I was out with an injury all of May (and it really sucked) and it was a time of reflection that I needed to take care of my body. I needed to take time to stretch, especially after a run.

Most inspirational runner

Janae Baron aka The Hungry Runner Girl. has been working at getting a sub 3 hour marathon for at least 5-7 years (I know I’m gonna get this wrong) finally got it this year, 2:59:14. It was amazing to see that it IS possible to get faster by working harder and smarter.

Favorite Picture from a run or race this year

This is of me and my friend, Andrea, after running on a cold early February morning. We both were pushing one another not knowing it, and we finished faster than we intended.

Race experience you would repeat in a heartbeat

My June 5k, was probably the best experience. I had just got clearance to run again (after being in a boot for about 4 weeks), and though I walked uphill I made up for it the last mile with me running an 8:41 mile (which included a nice speedy downhill). It always is great coming back after an injury.

If you could sum up your year in a couple of words what would they be?

Reminder to take care of myself. After having Kason in June of 2017, I tend to forget to stretch, or drink more water. So last year was reminder that I need to take care of myself and recover the right way.

    Thanks for sharing your year of running. I just came over from Courtney’s link-up… I think the running advice is spot on. Sometimes it’s good to take a rest day, to stretch more and just listen to your body!
